Using What You Have

Need somewhere to store all your little do-dads and such?
I just love boxes, jars, and baskets. I think they are my weakness.
So I figured, why throw out perfectly good shoe boxes. I know. I can make them pretty!
Here is a step by step tutorial for how to pretty up the boxes you already own.

Here's what you'll need....a shoe box with a removable lid, two complimentary pieces of fabric, double sided tape (or hot glue), iron set to linen setting, ironing board, spray starch.

                                                 
1. Cut fabric to the size needed to wrap box like a package. Do same with fabric for the lid. Spray fabric lightly with spray starch and press entire








                             

2. Pull a piece of double sided tape or a thin beam of hot glue along one of the inner edges of the box.

3. Fold the fabric tightly over the box edge. Run fingers along tape/glue press firmly.

 

4. Run hot iron along taped/glued edge to secure. (This step makes a big difference.) Repeat with the opposite side of the box.

5. Fold short sides over and trim corners on a diagonal. When all folds are completed it will minimize bulk.

6. Pull right corner of fabric to opposite corner of box, secure with tape to box. Press with iron.

7. Turn box onto short side of box. Take the center of the short side of fabric to form a point. Ensure that folds on right and left are even.

8. Even out right and left side
with center. Layer tape in
the the fabric











9. Fold corner over completely layer tape between
fabric layers and the box.
 Hold taut, run finger along side, press with iron. You may want to trim up any fringes.

10. Press outer sides of the box. Repeat the same steps for the lid. You now have somewhere to store all your hoogie-whats-its and more! Can also do the same thing with check book boxes & jewelry boxes.
